30th January 2012 – General Update
Just a quick update since I have been un-attentive over the last few weeks, this has been mainly to the festive period and Malaysian censorship. I did not know until I arrived here that there are some sites that Malaysia will not allow to be published and travellerspoint is one of them. Not sure if the same rule applies to all blogs but since I spent so much time in the peninsular of Malaysia then the inactivity kind of explains itself. I heard that the internet censorship in Malaysia is equal to that of both China and Iran!!
I am currently in Singapore and will be here for a few more days until I go back to Malaysia to see the Festival of Thaipusam in Kuala Lumpur. Since Japan I have travelled to only to Thailand, Cambodia and Malaysia, I have found that I have hit a point in the trip where my aims have changed, I have done a lot in the first half of the trip and now I need to slow down, I have begun to spend longer in each place that I have been to and done very little sightseeing and tourist things, I have seen enough Temples, Monasteries and Churches for a lifetime.
I think somebody wrote once, ‘the more I travel, the more I stay in one place’ and it seems that now, after 6 months of staying in places for no longer than 3 nights, I have started to slow down. By doing this though it feels a little less hectic and I can attempt to feel how it is to live in a certain place. Saying that of course, I still intend to see as much as I can in the time I have given myself. My loose plan for now is to spend some time in Sumatra, Indonesia before going to Brisbane Australia and then on to spend a fair old time in New Zealand.
My return leg home I am still undecided on, originally thinking of South America, but now thinking perhaps Africa, or home via train from India through Pakistan, Iran, Turkey and Europe, the train trip from Tehran to Istanbul is supposed to be amazing….. Decisions decisions….
I am also suffering from Travellers decision making fatigue, basically any simple decision takes a little bit too long to make, so perhaps I will or I won’t, I really don’t know yet.
Watch this space….
